What is photo restoration?
Photo restoration is the conservation and repair of a damaged image with digital tools. We do not paint a new picture over the old one. We respect the original: atmosphere, faces and era stay; time and wear go.
In our Volos lab we combine professional scanning with careful retouching. The result can be printed on Fujifilm paper, enlarged, copied for the family, or kept as a digital file.
What damage an old photo can show
Most family prints from past decades have one or more of these problems. We treat all of them in old photo restoration:
Faded colours
Sun, humidity and cheap paper wash out reds, greens and blues. The print looks bleached. We restore contrast and colour without making it look fake.
Yellowing
A classic sign of old prints and albums: a yellow or brown cast across the surface. We remove yellowing and rebalance tones, whether the photo is colour or black and white.
Scratches
Fine lines from drawers, frames and rough storage. On the scan they show as white or black scratches across faces and clothes. We close them point by point so they no longer cut across the image.
Tears
A torn corner, a split down the middle, a print in two pieces. We join the pieces digitally, fill the gap from surrounding detail and restore continuity in faces or background.
Stains
Water, coffee, mould, album glue, fingerprints. Stains hide detail. We remove them carefully so we do not also erase the photograph’s information.
Creases
A photo kept in a wallet or folded in a drawer has white crease lines. We visually flatten the surface and restore tone around the fold.
Loss of detail
Soft faces, melted eyes, low sharpness from a small negative or a poor print. High-resolution scanning and targeted retouching recover what the original still holds — without a plastic, over-filtered look.
Destroyed or missing areas
A missing corner, a chewed edge, a hole or a burn. We rebuild the lost area from what survives around it. Any reconstruction respects the original — no invented details that change the photo’s story.

FAQ
Will the original be damaged?
Work is done on a high-resolution digital copy. We handle the paper carefully during scanning and return it to you.
Can a torn photo be saved?
In most cases yes — tears, creases and missing pieces can be restored digitally, depending on how much detail survives around the damage.
What if I want more copies in five years?
That is why we keep an archive. We do not restore it again — we print from the restored file, even years later.
Do you only restore colour photos?
No. We restore colour, black-and-white and sepia photographs.
