The Sunday sunshine bathed the streets of Volos as Haris and Dina set off for their usual coffee. Their mood was light, full of teasing and plans for the rest of the day. Suddenly, as they turned onto a road in Agios Onoufrios, a car cut them off. Three burly men in hoods jumped out.
Haris barely managed to whisper “What’s going on?” before they grabbed him violently from the car. Dina froze in her seat, eyes wide with terror. One of the men gently but firmly pulled her from the vehicle, while the other two began pushing and hitting Haris, without actually injuring him (only Zisis accidentally threw one punch a little too hard).
“You owe us, Haris!” one of them growled, with a threatening look. Dina, frozen with fear, watched the scene, ready to scream.
Haris, trying to keep his composure, replied: I’ll pay you, guys
Then the leader of the group, a man with a deep voice and a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, approached Haris. “You have two options, my friend,” he said slowly and clearly. “Either you pay now… or you marry the girl.”
Haris, who until that moment had been confused and terrified, looked first at Dina, who was still stunned, and then at the man. A broad smile began to spread across his face. “Second option!” he declared without hesitation, as he dropped to one knee in front of her.
Dina, from the shock, nearly fainted. “What are you saying?” she whispered, looking at Haris, who was now offering her a sparkling ring.
“Dina, I love you more than anything. Will you marry me?” said Haris, while the “mobsters” around them smiled broadly.
Dina, after recovering from the initial surprise and realising it was a well-planned prank, burst into tears of joy and laughter. “Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!” she shouted, falling into his arms. The “mobsters”, who were in fact Haris’s friends, applauded them, and their day, from terrifying, became the most unforgettable of their lives.
